The area provided for this public garden site at the Cleveland Botanical Garden is prominent and well frequented by guests from all over the world. The landscape design had to provide visual impact and interest from various viewing points on this small and fairly steep site. The classical framework of columns and walls created the perfect background for this garden.

We designed a habitat garden that would educate and inspire visitors to create smaller versions in their own gardens. The design called for terracing and an informal, sustainable meadow approach. Plants were selected for colour, texture and scent and to attract butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. On a sunny day, the visitor might feel transported to the Mediterranean.

We had the pleasure of working with Ann on our butterfly garden. Her knowledge of pollinator plants and her ability to create swaths of color in a challenging hillside garden were phenomenal. Our butterfly garden is now a gorgeous meadow visited daily by colorful butterflies!

Ann also designed a tropical Thai garden for one of the Botanical Garden’s Flower Shows. Her design was simply lovely. Beautiful tropicals were arranged in a very zen-like design around a seating area evoking a calming and very comfortable garden retreat.
